Introducing Get To Know Your Hosts! We have 19 fabulous GNI book club hosts around the globe. By day, Eunice Bae works in Finance & Operations at By night, Euni is one of our hosts in Toronto and the GNI Reads Operations Lead. We asked Euni a few fun questions below…

1. What’s the latest book you’ve read that you couldn’t put down and why?

I honestly stayed up late on a “school night” finishing EDUCATED by Tara Westover. The way she told her story was so engrossing, I couldn’t help but be moved by her journey. Blown away.

Also, I read a whole lot of chick lit because of its snackability, and fun escapism. Recently, I could not get enough of the CRAZY RICH ASIANS trilogy by Kevin Kwan. It was so fun to read books about Asians in a way that I had never experienced (no immigrant struggle, or racial otherness). I will say, I definitely needed a family tree to keep track of all the characters.

2. Favorite literary character?

Thursday Next from the series by Jasper Fforde. She’s a literary detective, who goes around solving mysteries and problems in the BookWorld. She’s smart, resourceful, and saves Literature—I can’t ask for more. Also, the books are just hilarious and punny.

3. How do you like to relax, recharge, or practice self-care? Any tips?

I’m very much so an extrovert, and proud to be a Leo. So, a lot of my non-work hours are full of people and social interaction. I like to connect with friends, mostly one-on-one over food & drink, and we catch up and listen or help each other through a variety of topics. While I’m a huge promoter of self-care (love me some cozy Netflix binges), I don’t think it always has to be a solitary venture. If you’re like me, you can recharge with the people you care for the most—just listen to what your body and mind are telling you!

4. Recent obsession(s)?

MISFITSTUDIO: I’m all for these movement-based classes

Midori MD Notebooks: White gridlines! This stationery nerd is in heaven

To All the Boys I Loved Before: the YA movie on Netflix based on the novel

Mejuri: they have pretty zodiac necklaces so you can rep your sun sign!

Tarot: I’ve been learning to guide reflection and meditation. The Golden Thread app has been super helpful, too.

5. What do you enjoy about being a GNI Host? There are so many things I love about being a GNI host: meeting new people, discussing books, introducing local businesses and brands to new people. On top of those, though, I love that I can create space and foster a community in Toronto that supports the GNI philosophy of recharging, relaxing, and cultivating community.
