Welcome to another edition of Get To Know Your Hosts! We have 18 GNI book club hosts and counting and one of newest hosts is Mady Maio! Mady works in interior design, co-hosts a podcast called Okay Sis and is a book club host in LA. We asked her some questions below…

1. What’s the latest book you’ve read that you couldn’t put down and why?
Blue Nights by Joan Didion. I read this haunting and elegantly-written story in one sitting, which usually doesn’t happen for me. Joan pays incredible tribute to her daughter and invites the reader into this deeply intimate trauma with such grace. Have tissues ready.

2. Favorite literary character?
Lisbeth Salander from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo because she’s a gifted, intricate heroine. Also, Madeline from Madeline because we share a cool name 😉.

3. How do you like to relax, recharge, or practice self-care? Any tips?
I recharge by reading with a glass of scotch, admiring my collection of skincare, meditating à la Headspace, and schvitzing everything out with exercise. I think Cardi B. flawlessly summed up my approach to self-care: “unbothered, moisturized, in my lane, well-hydrated, flourishing.”

4. Recent obsession(s)?
I’m a very phase-y person, so you’ve come to the right place. Recently, I’ve been obsessed with chaga, the TV show Schitt’s Creek, powder sunscreen (I’m looking at you, Supergoop), the artist Sarah Bahbah, any and every song by Maggie Rogers, whoever runs JSwipe’s social media, Friday mornings because of Girls’ Night In (duh), Cazzie David, and Sweetgreen’s new fall menu (hello Brussels sprouts).
