Welcome to another edition of Get To Know Your Hosts! We have over 18 amazing GNI book club hosts around the globe. Meet Jordan Peterson! You may know Jordan as one of our Boston book club hosts but by day she is the Assistant Director of Student Involvement and Leadership Development at Framingham State University. We asked Jordan some questions below…
1. What’s the latest book you’ve read that you couldn’t put down and why?
I recently read From the Corner of the Oval by Beck Dory-Stein and was captivated! I went to undergrad in Virginia, visit DC often, and have a lot of friends that work for the federal government so I felt like I knew exactly what she was talking about. Her voice, vulnerability, and authenticity shine through on every page so I couldn’t get enough! If the current political sphere is getting you down or you want a firsthand account of life within the Obama Administration, this is a great read.
2. Favorite literary character?
Mia Thermopolis from The Princess Diaries. I grew up devouring the books every time a new one came out and always felt like Mia was my first “book BFF.” The series still brings me so much nostalgia and positive energy when I’m feeling down.
3. How do you like to relax, recharge, or practice self-care? Any tips?
My latest self-care routines have been daily meditation and increased skin care. I make time for at least five minutes of meditation every day with the Headspace app. The combination of packs and singles allows me to find the best topic/focus for each session. My daily skin care routine has been a solid habit for a while but I have recently created a weekly schedule for the “extras” so I mask on Sundays and do a peel on Tuesdays. I’ve found that the set schedule for once/twice a week products help me really stick to them.
4. Recent obsession(s)?
Listening to audiobooks on my commute with Audible, my latest have been American Gods by Neil Gaiman and #GNIReads Circe by Madeline Miller. I’m also loving my morning text from Shine Text as a motivator each morning.
5. What do you enjoy about being a GNI Host?
I love being a GNI host because I’ve gotten to meet so many amazing women! All the readers, attendees, and sponsors in Boston have unique stories and passions to share; I truly enjoy hearing about all of them. I also love being able to work with the entire GNI team-a group of strong women working hard to help other women find community, strength, and self-care.
